100,000 summer readers in 2020

This year the South Dakota State Library challenges libraries to reach 100,000 participants! The past few years, the summer reading participation number has been close to 100,000, but we have not yet reached this milestone.

Join South Dakota Library Summer Reading Programs to reach our goal of 100K summer readers for 2020 #SDSummerReading2020

Due to social distancing this summer, tracking participation can be challenging. Check out the added questions about live programming, recorded programming and remote activities. Grow your library's participation numbers and help us reach our goal by following this link: https://library.sd.gov/CAL/2020/SDSummerReading2020.aspx

Join us and take a book selfie of yourself or share summer reading activities your library patrons are completing and share on social media with #SDSummerReading2020. Spread the word about our goal on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Plan a 100,000 celebration when we reach our goal!

Thank you to the following libraries that are regularly using the #SDSummerReading2020 hashtag!

Federal Document of the Month - Coronavirus

We are all experiencing a new norm across the world. Working from home, ‘social distancing’, ‘flattening the curve’, ‘community spread’. All new phrases in our vocabulary and new adaptations in our lives.

There will be hundreds of federal documents addressing COVID-19 in the months to come. Visit https://catalog.gpo.gov/F?RN=296677413 and search for COVID to see the titles of many publications and websites that have been published at the federal level. Rather than overwhelm by listing too many websites, we direct you to just a couple: https://www.coronavirus.gov/ and https://www.cdc.gov/

At the state level in South Dakota, there are also many documents and websites to help those seeking information on COVID-19 in SD, as well as the ‘aftermath’. Job loss, stress, school closings. Visit https://doh.sd.gov/news/coronavirus.aspx for numbers of case counts in South Dakota, plus much more. To apply for unemployment related to COVID-19, go to https://dlr.sd.gov/ra/covid_19_ra_eligibility.aspx

The SD State Library is a federal depository library and provides access to print and electronic federal government publications. Print publications are available via interlibrary loan. Electronic publications are linked from the state library online catalog.
