Winners of 2020-2021 South Dakota Children's Book Awards Announced!

Congratulations to the following books: our latest winners for the 2020-2021 South Dakota Children's Book Awards!

Tiger Vs.  Nightmare by Emily Tetri is the 2020-2021 Prairie Bud Winner

• 3rd Place: We Don't Eat Our Classmates by Ryan T. Higgins

Prairie Bud winners are determined by South Dakota PreK, kindergarten, and first grade students.

The Epic Adventures of Huggie & Stick by Drew Daywalt is the 2020-2021 Prairie Bloom Winner

• 2nd Place: Once Upon a Slime by Andy Maxwell
• 3rd Place: Sparks! by Ian Boothby

Prairie Bloom winners are determined by South Dakota second and third grade students. 

Bob by Wendy Mass and Rebecca Stead is the 2020-2021 Prairie Bud Winner

• 2nd Place: Countown: 2979 Days to the Moon by Suzanne Slade
• 3rd Place: Dragon Pearl by YoonHa Lee

Prairie Pasque winners are determined by South Dakota fourth and fifth grade students. 

South Dakota Library Association sponsors the Prairie Bud, Prairie Bloom and Prairie Pasque Children's Book Awards. A committee of educators and librarians annually select the book nominees. South Dakota students from Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade are encouraged to read and give a star rating for any book they read from the nominee list. The books that receive the most highest number of stars from the students win these respective awards.

2019-2020 South Dakota Prairie Awards: and the winners are...

South Dakota Children's Book Awards: Prairie Bud, Prairie Bloom, Prairie Pasque Book Awards are sponsored by the South Dakota Library Association. Visit the SDLA committee page for a list of committee members and to find out who is the current chair for the Children's Book Awards.

Prairie Bud winners are determined by South Dakota PreK, kindergarten, and first grade students. Prairie Bloom winners are determined by South Dakota second and third grade students. Prairie Pasque winners are determined by South Dakota fourth and fifth grade students.

The Prairie Awards voting deadline was extended a month this year by the SDLA committee due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Librarians and teachers helped assist children in casting their votes and over 1500 votes were submitted during the month of April!

Prairie Bloom

Prairie Pasque
Winner: Moto and Me: My Year as a Wildcat's Foster Mom by Suzi Eszterhas
Runner Up: Sandwiches!: More Than You've Ever Wanted To Know About Making and Eating America's Favorite Food by Alison Deering
3rd Place: Sidetracked by Diana Harmon Asher
